This is Uberkinky's guide on How To Masturbate In The Shower. The shower is already one of life's great pleasures - hot water, privacy... and usually zero mess.
Add an orgasm to the equation and you've got yourself the ultimate self-care ritual. Whether you're working with a walk-in cubicle and a detachable showerhead or a deep soak tub and a suction-cup dildo, here's everything you need to know about making the most of your time in there.
Why Masturbate In The Shower?
Beyond the obvious - it's warm, it's private, and you're already naked - there are some genuinely underrated perks:
- Privacy on demand. Got a full house? The shower is one of the few spaces where a locked door is completely normal.
- Zero clean-up. Mess dissolves. Laundry stays clean. Need we say more?
- Natural sound cover. Running water is surprisingly effective white noise for anyone trying to be discreet.
- Temperature and water sensation play. Hot, cold, high pressure, soft spray - the shower is a built-in sensory playground.
- Waterproof sex toy heaven. A whole category of sex toys exists specifically for this moment.
- That detachable showerhead. We'll come back to this.
Before You Start
Keep it clean - but carefully. Give the bath or shower stall a proper clean before you get going, using soap and warm water rather than anything harsh. Bleach and genitals are not friends.
Sort out your footing. A slip-resistant bath mat is essential - arousal is a terrible time to be worrying about your balance. Get into a stable position before things get interesting, and if there's a grab rail or wall to brace against, use it.
Set the scene. Shower masturbation doesn't have to be a quick functional job. Dim the lights, put a Bluetooth speaker on outside the door, light a candle or several. A steamy bathroom, a good erotic audiobook, and thirty uninterrupted minutes is genuinely one of life's finer things...
Postions To Try
What works depends on your setup, but here are some starting points:
- Lying in the tub with a detachable showerhead aimed at the vulva or perineum - adjusting distance and pressure until it's perfect.
- Standing and stroking while the shower runs down your back; classic for penis owners, and for good reason.
- Propping a leg up on the edge of the tub to use a sex toy or your hand at a better angle.
- Suction-cup dildo on the wall for hands-free penetration while standing. Stick it at the right height, brace yourself, and enjoy.
- Grinding on a soft towel wrapped around the faucet - unconventional, effective, and weirdly popular.
- Sitting back against the tub and using your hands, ideally with silicone lube (more on that below).
Shower Temperature Play
There's actually a word for arousal triggered by baths and showers: ablutophilia. Water-based arousal more broadly? Aquaphilia. Sexual excitement from cold? Psychrocism. The vocabulary exists because the experience is common and, frankly, very good.
If you enjoy BDSM sensation play, the shower is an excellent tool. Hot water down the back while pressing a sensitive body part against a cold wall creates a contrast that's hard to replicate elsewhere. Just practise the temperature dial before you get deep into a session - going from ahh to ARGH is an experience to avoid, especially in sensitive areas.
Showerhead Technique
The detachable showerhead is genuinely one of the best non-toy tools available for shower masturbation - but there are rules.
The water and the showerhead stay outside the body. Always. The pressure of shower water entering a vagina or anus can cause serious internal damage. External stimulation only.
For vulva owners: lying in the tub and directing the stream at the clitoris and labia is the go-to. Start further away and move closer, adjusting pressure settings as you go. The clitoris is sensitive - subtlety first, intensity second.
For penis owners: the underside of the shaft, the perineum, and around the anus all respond well to directed water. Detach the head, experiment with angles, and combine with a free hand or toy for something more involved.
Lube In The Shower
Yes, you still need lube in the shower. Water washes away natural lubrication and water-based lube almost immediately, so go silicone or oil-based. Just don't use so much that you're adding to the slip hazard... a little goes a long way when everything's already wet.
Silicone lube is the shower standard: long-lasting, water-resistant, body-safe. Not compatible with all silicone sex toys, though - check your toy material first.
Oil-based lube works well for solo play with non-silicone toys or no toys at all. Not recommended with condoms.
SEX TOYS for the SHOWER!
Not all sex toys are waterproof - but plenty of toys from the Uberkinky range are. And they're WELL worth having.
Suction-cup Dildos. The shower MVP. Stick to any flat surface, walk (or thrust) yourself into it, and enjoy hands-free penetration. Available in every conceivable size, shape, and colour. Click here for our dildos. Please note that not all are suction cup or cup compatible. Email us for clarification.
Tentacle Dildos. If you're leaning into the aquatic theme (or just want something genuinely unlike anything else), these are a great shout. Textured, unusual, very popular. Click here to view our Fantasy Dildos.
Waterproof Vibrators. Bullets, rabbits, eggs, phallic shapes. Powerful in or out of water; just confirm the waterproofing rating before submerging. Click here for our vibrators. Please note that not all vibrators are waterproof. Email us for clarification.
Waterproof Butt Plugs. The shower is actually an ideal place for anal play from a practical standpoint. A waterproof plug keeps the fun going without the usual post-play logistics. Click here for our Butt Plugs.
Vibrating Nipple Clamps (waterproof). Involve the whole body, not just below the waist. These add another layer of sensation while your hands or toys are otherwise occupied.
Glass Dildos. Non-porous, body-safe, and perfect for temperature play. Run them under cold water, then warm, and feel the difference. Visually beautiful, too. Click here for our Glass Dildos.
Waterproof Masturbators. Penis owners aren't left out. Check the waterproofing spec, add silicone lube, and you've got a significantly more interesting shower. Click here for our Masturbators.
What NOT to do in the Shower
- Don't use soap, shower gel, or shaving cream internally or under the foreskin. They sting, they disrupt your body's natural balance, and they can cause infections. They're for your skin, not your intimate anatomy.
- Don't neglect lube. Water is not a lubricant. Use silicone or oil-based.
- Don't use the showerhead internally. Already said it, saying it again.
- Don't turn the temperature dial mid-fantasy without thinking. Know your range before you're too distracted to be sensible about it.
- Don't overdo the lube on the floor. You're already in a slippery environment - this is a practical concern, not a killjoy one.
